I wonder what the minimum altitude/maximum allowable speed is for a B-1B Lancer to deliver a nuclear gravity bomb? And yeah, an ICBM might be a faster option, but you don't get the option to change your mind with those...

Pretty bloody minded today. Blerg.

Actually, the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty removed nuclear capability from the B-1 and in 2011 the hard points were modified to prevent nuclear pylons from ever being attached. The B-2 is better equipped to penetrate defended airspace anyway.

This is a beautiful page though.

Oh dear, fatal narrative error committed. Chip now has to take down his entire webcomic down and slink off in shame and into permanent exile. Let that be a lesson to all of us.

Diz, thanks for the answer to my question.

Shan, that's some assumption that STRATCOM would deploy a standard strategic payload against a rogue AI. I'm thinking more a boutique EMP weapon...

Well, your entire story took a huge implausible leap from reality from the outset by ever thinking it was in way credible that the American people could ever elect ... oh, wait I'm not dreaming and that actually happened, didn't it? Never mind. Forget I said anything. Everyone else does - and with good reason.

The scariest thing of all when the government cracks down on somebody are the weapons that haven't been seen or catalogued yet.

There was a time when a plane going supersonic would be seen as fiction.

Let's not forget how the first almost all of us learned about a certain stealth helicopter was only after a particular mission in Pakistan a few years back - and we may well still not know anything about it had they not crashed it on the way out.

Then there's the legendary Aurora aircraft ...

Slept on this one... Keeping with the tendency towards using shelved superweapons, I am going to say that Bolo Flight consists of two “wrecked” airframes whose tail numbers are unknown to the Russians and consequently remain nuclear capable.

If I had unlimited resources I’d be doing a tech heavy sci fi comic about near earth space superiority combatants... Aim High

High enough to not be blown up by its own explosion? XD Don't know, but maybe it can be so high as a HALO/HAHO jumping?
