So why is it exactly that I want to knowingly put a computer with a microphone and/or camera into my house?

There will be consequences for Sam's poor information assurance practices... and no, I'm not talking an early release of the "home movies" starring him and Maureen!

Sam: "Uh, Maureen? Did you change my phone's wallpaper again??"

tbh, she probably does that a lot, since she'd think it was a fun way of reminding Sam not to dawdle too long on campus!

And once again, little Trinity is too cute for words...

Some people use a baby monitor, other people hire a nanny, and some other people use sentient weaponized artificial intelligence systems.

Cameras and microphones in the home can be used for applications that benefit the resident and/or property owner, like security systems, gesture UI systems to control televisions and other entertainment devices without a remote control, and turn off lights automatically. Other applications that already exist are automated thermostat control, intercom systems, and 3D videogame controls.

There also may be no point in worrying about the telescreen watching you in the home. Cellphones are the personal tracking devices they used to search for bodies in the wreckage of the WTC back in 2001. It's all about hunting communists. You don't want to get in the way of hunting the red menace, do you patriot?

Actually, according to conservative media, Russians are our friends.

And it's not the cell phones that bother me, it's the IOT. Give me death or convenience, comrade.

Naturally, the current political fault line The Sauth is on the wrong side of is the Petroleum Industry bubble. Putin's on the side of burning dinosaurs to move huge cars too fast, and sticking it to those hippies who want people's grandchildren to still have working agriculture and civilization. He's also on the side of locking up gays in prison for being gay, and people who aren't down with the old time religion. Why wouldn't they like the man who wants to crush America and rule the world?

Yeah, you'll see just how evil that phone is in a couple weeks.
