Writing ranting is difficult for me, but highly satisfying when it's done well.

Creators: what's your highest effort/highest reward dialogue?

"Ventilating Geppetto" XD

It seems Wendell is referring to the assassination of Timothy A. Timmy III. In the author's comment to his original appearance, I indeed described him as "Agent Smith [from the Matrix movies] if he were the grandson of Mister Geppetto".

Regarding CG's question, I don't have that many rants in my comic and thus I guess my source of satisfaction is more if witty banter turns out to flow well. Incidentally though, I am a little bit proud of Timmy's vaguely menacing speech in the second link above. (CG granted him the ascend from fan art into actual Valkyries canon after all * , so I suppose my attempt to establish his character within that one page wasn't all too shoddy...)

* Yeah, for the price of his life, but still...

Oh! thank you! I had thought something totally different.

A self-important, self-made rich man arguing the security issues of closing down a factory to offshore it in Vietnam with his head of security and chief bodyguard, interrupted by one on the union members showing up, all of them speaking different New York-region accents/slang styles. Try to imagine how much research that took before my test-reader collaborators in NY were happy I wasn't getting any of it more than a little bit off! Also try to imagine how little useful, constructive criticism they had for me when I wasn't getting it close yet. *shakes fist*

Oh shit, that would be ugly to the point of almost needing to have been from the City to make that happen.

Jesus, all that New Yawk yammering makes my head hurt just thinking about it.

I cheated: My first step was to Separate out my readers into three groups, and then made them critique each other's bullshit as many times as it took before there was only minor grumbling left. I don't honestly know how close I got because I'm not from Niyawk, and I admit this freely. I am quite sure I couldn't be arsed to spend any more time and effort than I already did without seven figures on the table, bare minimum.

Ranting is fun, but it needs to be done economically. I thought this page did it just right.

Yeah, any more than this and it would be better to demote that text to transparent bubbles, rasterize, and run a gradient erase to forcibly shove it into the background as noise.

I think writing "ranting" is pretty fun, although, I usually do have to tweak it a bit. The highest effort/reward for me is "humor". I find when it works, it's the most satisfying for me.

Humor is the hardest thing to write... I like a good joke and heck this is called "comics", but man o man I like to liberally apply jackassery and teh swears. Inability to really dive into both of those makes Tona more difficult to script than Eric (or anyone else here who wears a black suit... huh what's up with that).

Geppetto had it comin'.

Now he's sleepin' with the fishes... whales to be more precise.

Take note that when hatchet man is over thinking about what the higher ups are doing, they're probably about to jump ship and not without some kind of douchey fare well.

Geppetto was a probably mobbed up.

Shame I didn't work in a reference to the whale.

Haha, motherfucking Geppeto. Well, I mean, surely it keeps the job fresh...

Huh, for me, favorite highest effort... Not quite there yet.
