"That's a really cute kid, by the way." - I was half expecting this to be proceeded with: "It would be such a shame if something bad happened to it..."

Ivanka was a cute kid too.

Heh, I was considering going that direction, but that's not really fitting with Ivanka Trump's goody-goody public face. And broadly speaking, she's correct, setting a bad example for one's children does have consequences.

I feel like when you're dealing with powerful people who have demonstrated that they are unscrupulous - or at least they haven't shown yet where the line is that they won't cross - the threat is implicit.

Hell yes. I sure as sugar wouldn't want any of the Trumps talking about my child.

Has anyone ever kept her in check for long?

Her drill sergeant maybe?

Off the top of my head: Federal prison, PTSD, her husband Tim's money, Eric's uh physical presence in college... Tona doesn't run roughshod over everyone.

"Game of Thrones with the cast of Arrested Development" is the best way I've heard it, and much like most of the Bluths, Tona may be beyond salvaging at this point

Yeah, I'm not actually sure how much of her is going to be left at the conclusion of this series, physically or morally.

Classic, "I can get at your family," terrorist arm-twisting: Who has that square on their bullshit bingo cards?

I'm also puzzled by why they would bother, since Trump's obvious go-to strategy is to fire her. It's not like threatening a temperamental spree killer is a great idea, and firing her at least cuts off her permissions to most of the problematic resources and access.

As it should be obvious by any scan of week's news, this dysfunctional administration doesn't operate as the single entity desired by its supporters and subjects.

The President of the United States of America sees an amusement, a plaything.

Ivanka sees her father playing with a live grenade.

Well, at least they'd both be right: Tona is very amusing.

Ivanka may actually be doing something productive about her worries here too. I can't recall us previously seeing what happens when someone threatens Tona's family as a way to 'rein her in.' It might even work.

I remember a scene with an axe and bean-bag grenades...
anonymous coward 4th Sep 2017, 4:31 PM edit delete reply
That was 'incidentally threatening' her family while searching for Eric as I recall. It's different from threatening that bad things will happen to her family unless she 'behaves herself.' For one thing, the time-frame, location(s) and method of threat is unspecified, and that makes a difference in how she can react to the threat.

It makes sense that the most human-seeming of the Trump clan would be the one to come and reach out to the most sane-seeming known associate of Tona Zehm.

This is a very interesting, well done scene. :)

Yeah, too bad the Trump clan isn't multipolar.

Sam is probably thinking "if I had a nickel for every time someone gave me advise about Tona..."
